Attention

The NO DRIFT community for men who want more direction and discipline is growing rapidly. The next edition of the newsletter goes out tomorrow. Get it here.

What did you give your attention to this week?
Look at your calendar, look at the screen time on your phone, think back on each day. For most people, there is a gap between what they think they gave their attention to, and what they actually gave their attention to.
Most give their attention to their phone, to their distractions, to gossip, to dwelling on perceived problems. And then they wonder why they aren’t getting better, why they aren’t making progress (this applies both professionally and personally). We do this with our kids (“You’re not going to get better at baseball/school/soccer/dance if all of your free time is going to video games.”) yet ignore this with ourselves.
Because what you give your attention to is what you give power to.
Where do you want and need to get better? What are the things that will make that happen? When will you make it happen? Schedule time with yourself to work on what matters.
Better doesn’t happen on accident. Control what you give your attention to.
