Average

The world is addicted to average.

Average effort is tolerated.
Average effort expects to be rewarded.

We are consistently lowering the standard of what is required to do great work, and then wondering why so few people are doing great work. Mediocrity is everywhere.

Which means that when you give above average effort, when you have above average levels of care, you are going to ruffle some feathers. You are going to make people uncomfortable. People will not understand what you’re doing and why you’re doing it with such a high level of intentionality. They’ll try to bring you back down to their level.

They don’t need to understand you. They aren’t on your path.

Instead of lowering your standard to fit in, raise your standard and stand out.
