Be in Process

“The rose is a rose from the time it is a seed to the time it dies. Within it, at all times, it contains its whole potential. It seems to be constantly in process of change; yet at each state, at each moment, it is perfectly all right as it is".”

The Inner Game of Tennis is one of my favorite books. It is about tennis, yet not about tennis. It is about competition, performance, thinking, fear. We use portions of it in our Game Within work with athletes and leaders (more on that coming soon).

But I love this quote and concept from the book (OKC Thunder player Jared McCain reads it before every game). It embodies the Keep Chopping Wood mindset.

It is a reminder to us that we are not yet what we will be, and that’s okay. But that at all times, all of our greatness and potential is within us. Where we are in the journey is simply where we are and we cannot be anywhere else. We cannot be who we were yesterday, we cannot be who we will be tomorrow.

This moment is what matters. Not even the outcome of this moment, just the moment and who we are in it. We are always in process of becoming. Of unlocking. Of activating. Never a finished product, never defined by an outcome or a season or a stage of life. Everything is part of the process. We train, we perform, we learn, we adapt, we train, we repeat.

Be in process.
