Better goals

It’s that time of year again. All virtual sessions (60 minutes) booked in December and January are half off - this is through BETTER as well as me personally (for my non-sports teams/org readers). The session doesn’t have to be in December or January, just booked during those months. Just reply to this email to lock it in.

Wednesday, December 10

Don’t pick goals you can’t control.

Here’s what I mean by that. This time of year, people start setting goals for the upcoming year. I love it. Goals are great and provide direction.

One of the biggest mistakes I see people make, is setting goals that rely on other people. That’s just premeditated disappointment. Nobody will care about your goals as much as you do - they are worried about their own goals.

Example: getting healthy in 2026. You control that. You can decide to eat better, go to bed earlier, workout regularly. You don’t need anybody else to make that happen.

Getting promoted? That’s out of your control. You can do all the right things and still not get promoted. It’s not a bad thing to want, of course, but a better goal is putting yourself in position to get promoted - that, you control.

When we give up the power of our success to others we become dependent on others. , The result is a feeling of helplessness and frustration.

When you take ownership, you realize you have control and you can create your own momentum.

Goals matter. Use them correctly to unlock your potential, not your disappointment.
