Better than you think

Tuesday, January 9

I was with a team recently, where they were challenged to rate how 2023 went for them: bad, good or great).

Then they took some time to go back through their calendar and the pictures on their phone to highlight memorable moments from each month. While doing that, they rated each month as bad, good or great. Then they tallied those up to give their year a new score.

Most people in the room gave an initial answer of bad or good. Yet when they took the time to actually go through and review the year, the majority of the room changed their vote. Nobody ended up having a bad year. During the discussion they noted that they were surprised at how good of a year they had actually had. Their initial response was to focus on the negative, yet the year was filled with a lot of good.

This is the power of perspective, and living out of truth rather than feelings. The challenge then is to get that in the moment.

This hard moment, what is it teaching you? This difficult season, how could it make you better? And is it really as difficult and hard as you think, or are you focused on the wrong things?

Make your perspective your advantage. Things are almost always better than you think.
