Challenging growth

Wednesday, May 8

Comfort is where complacency happens, not growth.

I was working with a team recently who is in the midst of a stressful season. I asked what they had learned and how they had gotten better in the midst of the chaos. Every person acknowledged how much the challenge had resulted in increased capacity, expanded skillsets, higher levels of focus and productivity.

One of them remarked, “I didn’t know what I was capable of before this.”

And it’s not that the season has to be fun or enjoyable, but it is making them better. And had they not gone through the experience, they would still be the old versions of themselves. An easier path would’ve resulted in them limiting their potential.

A season of challenge has caused them to look back and say, “Look what I’ve accomplished. Look who I’ve become along the way.”

None of that happens if you embrace the pursuit of comfort. Lean into the chaos today, and get better because of it.
