Christmas light lessons

Monday, November 24

I love Christmas/holiday season but hate putting up Christmas lights. It always seems like a massive hassle, frustration, not to mention the not-so-awesome being 20 feet up a ladder questioning my life decisions.

Yet every year, the reality is that it takes us all of 2-3 hours and is mostly painless. Our family gets along well, our boys love to help, and we get it done in a pretty efficient manner (side note: it’s now extremely helpful to have a teenager who is taller than me to send up the ladder every now and then).

This is the process of getting better. That thing you know you need to do? That thing you’ve been dreading? That thing that seems so big and scary and nerve-wracking?

It’s not near as bad as your mind is telling you it will be. In the time you’ve wasted agonizing over and avoiding it, you could’ve just done it and been on the other side of it.

So stop delaying. Stop avoiding. Stop whining. Stop making excuses.

Just do the work.
