Clear mind, Better you

As this email hits your inbox, I’m flying across the country to spend a few days with leaders from State Farm. I’d love to be coming to your team, organization or event. Reply to this email if you need proven systems on leadership, culture, mindset and performance.

I have a friend who has tracked what we call the Peace Index - a tool we use for leaders and teams - every day for the last few years. He enters the data into a spreadsheet to track it. He also plays basketball a few times a week, and tracked his energy (including sleep), his clarity and his shooting percentage.
He then analyzed all the data to look for any patterns. The most glaring pattern was this: the better his clarity, the better his shooting. Even on days when he had low energy, if he was took 5-10 minutes before the game to get his mind right, he shot well. Over and over that was shown in the data.
There are a lot of things we can’t control in our days. An unexpected delay on a project. A lost game or client. A bad night of sleep. A colleague missing a deadline.
But the one thing we can control is our attitude. It’s cliche to say, but it’s also true. You can continue to ignore it or you can finally decide to own the way you show up. You can take 5 minutes before your next meeting to breathe and get clarity. You can wait to walk into the office until your attitude is where it needs to be. You can decide who you want to be.
You at your best starts with the way you think. Make your mindset your advantage today.
