Cost of fear

Wednesday, April 3

You’ve probably heard some form of the phrase, “the thing you fear the most is often the thing you most need to do.”

I believe it’s true. Fear prevents us from unlocking our potential. It could be the fear of looking stupid, the fear of failing, the fear of what others will think, or any number of fears.

I think we have to be honest about what fear costs us. We always look at what taking the risk will cost, but not the cost of letting the fear win. Because the costs of taking the risk and failing, looking stupid, or whatever the outcome may be, are short term. They are temporary. Painful today but a source of strength tomorrow.

The costs of fear are unending. You stay stuck. Not just today, but forever. Your circumstances don’t get better. Not just today, but ever. You don’t get better. Ever.

That cost is much greater than short term embarrassment or failure.

The thing that you’ve been afraid to do? Let today be the day you stop giving it power over your thoughts and actions. Show up on purpose.
