Delaying growth

Tuesday, November 28

I’ll wait until January 1 to get better.
I’ll wait until I’m ready to get better.
I’ll wait until I have enough time to get better.
I’ll wait until it’s convenient to get better.
I’ll wait until things settle down to get better.
I’ll wait until I get the promotion or raise to get better.

What those statements really say: “I could get better today but I’ll wait.” Would you be okay with your boss, colleagues, teammates, or people you lead having that mindset? Absolutely not. You’d be frustrated and annoyed and probably complain about them (or if you are their boss, you’d give them a plan of growth to commit to - or fire them if their attitude didn’t change).

And if we wouldn’t allow that mindset from others, why would we allow it for ourselves?

Why would you want to delay getting better, when the opportunity is available today? Have a sense of urgency about your growth. Get moving.
