Do more to be more?

Wednesday, July 17

You don’t have to do more to be more (unless you are just starting out - then you are doing more because you’ve been doing nothing).

We believe this lie that getting better requires more of us. Specifically as it relates to time. We would get better if we just put in more time. You can put in 40 hours per week but what if you put in 60 hours per week?

This is the chase that leads to frustration and burnout. Because you don’t need to do more, you need to do better. Be better with how you spend your time. Be better with how you spend your attention. Be better with the actions you take.

For us to double our business doesn’t require that we put in more work. It requires that we change what we work on and how we work on it. It requires that we be relentless with what we say yes and no to, be intentional with the actions we take and don’t take. The same is true for your growth as a leader, or in whatever goal you are pursuing.

If you aren’t spending any time on it then yes, you need to spend more time. But if you are spending time on it, look at how you are spending that time. Are you being as intentional, as disciplined, as efficient as possible?

You accelerate your growth when you take ownership of how you spend your time.
