Don't enjoy it

Friday, July 18
I was talking with a friend recently who was wanting to get in shape/get healthy. They’ve drifted off the path over the years and realize that something needs to change. Then they made this comment. “I just don’t enjoy working out.”
My question to them was, “Well, do you enjoy being unhealthy?”
I think we’ve gotten to an unrealistic place where we think the work should always be enjoyable. And anything that is uncomfortable or difficult is labeled as bad and we just should avoid it. Of course it sounds ridiculous to type that or read it out loud, but look around and that’s how most people live.
There are things we should do that we enjoy, no question. Otherwise life is just miserable and that doesn’t do us any good.
But when it comes to getting better, enjoyment can’t be the driver. It should simply be, does this thing make me better? Does it get me closer to where I want to be?
You don’t enjoy getting healthy, but do you enjoy being unhealthy?
You don’t enjoy difficult conversations, but do you enjoy the constant drama in your life?
You don’t enjoy being held accountable, but do you enjoy never getting better and being passed by for opportunities?
We don’t get skip “hard” moments in life. But we can choose which hard we want to endure.
