Endurance

Getting the promotion will take longer than you think.
Mastering that skill will take longer than you think.
Changing your team culture will take longer than you think.
Fixing the relationship with that “difficult” teammate will take longer than you think.
Building a winning team will take longer than you think.

Which means that along the way, you are going to be uncomfortable. You are going to have sit in the difficulty of the current reality and deal with it.

The key is to do that and not lose hope. To remember why you are doing the work, the vision you are chasing after, the goal you want to achieve. To remind yourself that the work, and the struggle, has a purpose.

Because this is the part where most people bail. They “want” the goal as long as it’s easy and comfortable. But as soon as difficulty hits, they decide this situation isn’t for them. And so they jump to the next thing and repeat the cycle, never accomplishing what they want to accomplish? Why? Because they are unwilling to deal with the discomfort.

Those who win are those who have the strength to endure. Play the long game.
