Excuses and Ceilings

Tuesday, January 14

Yesterday we launched our community for leaders in sports. Our goal is to make it THE place where coaches, athletic directors, administrators go to get better and be surrounded by leaders who want the same. Massive value, low cost. Read about it here and if you work in sports, join us!

Leaders who make excuses for their teams get teams who make excuses.

Didn’t hit your goals? Not your fault.
Didn’t meet the deadline? Not your fault.
Didn’t ship the project? Not your fault.
Didn’t close the deal? Not your fault.
Didn’t get better? Not your fault.

The excuse game results in the blame game. More importantly, it diminishes your ability to get better in the future. Because if it’s not your fault, there are no lessons to learn, to behaviors to adjust, no path to improvement. Which means you keep doing the things that prevented you from hitting the goals, while continuing to blame someone or something else. Rinse and repeat forever.

Excuses put a ceiling on your growth. Want to get better? Take ownership.
