Excuses and Expectations

I’m just outside of Austin, Texas today to give a keynote and two breakouts at the annual conference for the International Association of Golf Administrators. I’m excited to be back with this group for the second time in three years. My 2026 calendar is starting to fill up (have some availability late 2025 as well). If you need a speaker for your event or team or a retreat, reply to this email for info.

Every excuse you make teaches you to accept less from yourself.

Excuses don’t just delay action, they rewire your expectations.

You start to believe that less is okay.
That skipping today is fine.
That “later” is good enough.
That average effort is acceptable.

And before long, the gap between who you are and who you want to be widens. Not because you lack ability or opportunity, but because you’ve trained yourself to lower the bar.

You’re either reinforcing your standard or eroding it with every decision you make.

Don’t teach your mind to expect less.
Teach it to expect follow-through.
Teach it to expect effort.
Teach it to expect your best.

Live your standards.
