Fear and Hope
Tuesday, October 1
There is a lens you view most things through that negatively impacts your efforts, your influence, your outcomes. It shapes your present and rewrites your future in ways that limit your impact.
This lens is fear.
You fear what happens if this thing goes poorly.
You fear what they will think of you if you fail.
You fear what the consequences will be if you are wrong.
You fear that you might not have what it takes.
You’ve convinced yourself that this fear is really just you being reasonable. That’s what fear does. It lies to you so that you keep it around. It’s a terrible, manipulative master.
Do you want to be aware of and strategic about outcomes if the step you take is the wrong one? Of course. But that’s different than letting that fear paralyze you and keep you where you are. As I mentioned last week, your fear is the thing that you must address if you want to unlock your potential.
Today, choose curious optimism. Let your mind wander to the positive possibilities.
What if the idea works?
What if it goes great?
What if you do have what it takes?
What if, even if it isn’t as perfect as you hoped, you are able to adjust and keep moving forward?
Fear holds you back. Belief moves you forward.
