We on fries

“We on fries.”

That’s the phrase that a coach I was talking to recently uses with his position group on the team. Why? It’s a reminder that everybody has a role, and all we can do is play our role (he even wrote a book about it, that you can get here). At a McDonald’s you may have someone on burgers, someone on nuggets, someone on drinks, someone on fries. The people on fries can’t worry about the people on burgers. They have to be focused and committed to taking care of the fries as best they can, and trust that those on burgers are doing the same with their role. To worry about what they are doing distracts us from what we need to do.

You have a purpose within your team and organization, and in your life. The only way to excel at your purpose is to focus on your purpose. Looking to the left and right and wondering what everyone else is doing prevents you from being at your best. It limits your contribution. It holds you back and it holds the team back.

Remember where you are. Remember who you are. Stay focused on being excellent where you are.
