Getting lucky

Thursday, May 7

“They got lucky.”

Maybe. I think luck certainly is a part of life.

But they also put themselves into position to get lucky. They were ready. And when it appeared, they acted on it. Took advantage of the opportunity.

Just because luck is part of the equation doesn’t mean it is the entire equation.

Hard work matters. Discipline matters. Preparation matters. Because if you don’t have those things, you will miss the opportunity that luck, if and when it shows up, is providing you. And if luck never does show up, you still have the ingredients required to grow, to perform, to have success.

The heavy lifting is still up to you. Luck doesn’t reward the lazy, the distracted, the unprepared.

You can’t control whether or not you get lucky. You can control how you show up.
