Actions follow goals.

If your goal is to avoid embarrassment, you won’t speak up. If your goal is to avoid failure, you won’t take on the project. If your goal is to avoid looking needy, you won’t ask for help.

You may have a stated goal of getting healthy. But if your internal goal is to never look foolish - and the gym makes you feel foolish - you will take actions against your health to protect your ego.

If you don’t like your reality, look at your actions. Then, be honest about what goals are actually driving them.

Better goals lead to better actions.
