Hard today, better tomorrow

Friday, July 3
I was talking with a friend recently who told me about the Biosphere experience back in the early 90s. The goal was to build the ideal self-sustaining ecosystem.
What was fascinating in the experiment is that the trees grew tall quickly, but then would topple over. They collapsed under their own weight before reaching their full potential. They noticed that they did not have a deep root system to support their weight.
Why? Because the “ideal” ecosystem included no wind. Wind is a healthy stress that causes trees to deepen their root system. Without that resistance, they grew tall but were fragile.
The same is true for us. Storms test us. Adversity strengthens us. Hardship builds resilience. If we want to grow into our potential, we have to be willing to endure the difficult seasons.
The hard thing today makes you better tomorrow. Use adversity to your advantage.
