It's on you

In the workout app I used, the coach programmed some foam rolling at the end of a recent workout. In the team chat, someone asked if the coach would program it more because they loved the addition of it. They went on to note that, “I struggle to stretch/foam roll when it isn’t part of the workout.”
Now, this isn’t to be negative toward a person. I just want to use this as an example of why most of us don’t do the work that is required to reach our goals.
Foam rolling is very simple. It can be short and sweet, or you can do it for a lengthy period of time. On Sunday, I typically foam roll for 15 minutes. Some days I’ll do it for a couple of minutes before bed. In this particular workout, the coach programmed a total of 60 seconds of it.
The issue is that this individual has a limiting belief that they can’t foam roll unless it’s programmed in the workout. They believe they can’t make a decision to take the 60 seconds to do it. Someone must tell them to. Otherwise, it won’t happen. Which puts the burden on the other person. And whenever they don’t foam roll but know they need to, they can blame someone else. “I would’ve foam rolled today but they didn’t program it.” And yet the reality is the only thing stopping them from foam rolling is themselves.
This is what we do with our habits and with our goals. We would do it, but someone else did (or didn’t do) something and that’s why we didn’t take action. Someone else didn’t create the perfect conditions for us, so we avoided the work. Someone else didn’t hold us accountable, so we slacked. Someone else didn’t call to wake us up, so we slept in. And the next thing we know, we’ve gone days, weeks, months, years without doing the work we know we need to do.
You have ownership. You are in control of your actions. You are in control of your growth. Nobody else can do the work or create the conditions for you. If you want to get better, get better. If you want to make progress, make progress.
Do the work.
