You need to have a vision. You need to be able to communicate. You need to have a clear strategy to achieve the vision. You have to be consistent. You need to be optimistic, secure and confident.

All of those things matter for leaders, no question. But if you don’t care about people, none of those things matter. Leaders care about others. Leaders care about the success of others. Leaders care about helping people unlock their potential. Leaders care.

If you don’t care about people, stop trying to be a leader. Just show up, do great work and call it a day. Nothing wrong with that, just be honest with yourself and others.

Leadership is about service, not power.
