KCW. Monday May 8

Monday, May 8

We learned late Friday afternoon that tournaments were rained out for our boys this past weekend. For my oldest son, his coach sent out a message to parents saying that he'd be at their facility Friday night and Saturday morning if any players wanted to get in some extra work. We took our son both times, and he was one of only two players there each time.

The point isn't to judge other families for their kids not showing up. Some went to the lake once they learned we wouldn't have games, and some may have had other things going on. Still, only two kids showed up to get extra work in and get better. I told our son that he basically got 2 hours of 1:1 instruction, which is invaluable. I told him that any time a coach (or anyone) offers to help you get better, take advantage of it. Talking with one of the parents there Friday evening, they had told their son the same thing. “It was a 30 minute drive for us one way, but it’s worth it.”

If you want to win, you do what the winners do. If you want to lead, you do what leaders do. You can hope to get better or you can do the work.

Don’t pass up opportunities to get better today.
