That difficult boss? Believe the best about them today. Believe they aren’t trying to be difficult (because they aren’t). Believe there is more to the story.

That difficult teammate? Believe the best about them. They aren’t perfect, but neither are you.

That difficult employee? Believe the best about them today. Believe they want to get better, that they want to contribute.

Take the difficult people and write down three positive things about them. Create a better narrative in your mind about them. One that results in you giving them better attention, communication, connection, and belief. Put yourself in their shoes. This is what you would want. To be believed in, not labeled.

Because believing in the best in people will make you a better leader, teammate, and employee. When you constantly tell yourself they are difficult, you will withhold your best from them. And people won’t give their best if you don’t give them your best.

What you believe about people shapes how you lead and connect with people.
