Keep Chopping Wood. Friday, September 8

Waiting makes it more difficult.

Most people wait to change until the pain of staying where they are is too great. Some pain we can’t avoid, and it can certainly be a valuable teacher, but oftentimes we can avoid it if we just make better decisions today.

People know they need to make better financial decisions but they wait until they have to declare bankruptcy or have a crisis. They know they need to get healthy but they wait until the doctor tells them their health is unsustainable and something has to change. They wait to talk to address issues with their spouse until they are on the verge of divorce. They wait to change their leadership style until they are told to get better or they’ll be fired.

The longer you wait, the more difficult it gets. You could work on losing 20 pounds now or try to lose 100 pounds tomorrow. You can work on being a better leader today or you can wait and try to become a better leader and hope to rebuild your lost influence tomorrow.

You can wait for pain or you can choose to be driven by purpose. There’s no better day to start than today.
