Keep Chopping Wood. Monday, July 31

Monday, July 31

I'm not a fan of weeds. Every time I turn around, there are more weeds in our yard or flower beds that I have to deal with. The weeds thrive in a season of extreme heat where it feels like most things are struggling to grow.

The thing about weeds is that they don't need the perfect conditions to grow. They can adapt to heat, not enough water, not great soil. Weeds don't need much, just an opportunity. Grass and flowers, though, need the right conditions. It's not enough to just pull up the weeds around them. They also need a certain amount of sunlight, a certain amount of water, and they need healthy soil. Without those things, they wither up and get overtaken by weeds.

The same is true for our minds. Negative thoughts don't need perfect conditions to grow. They can thrive in almost any opportunity. They take root and grow in the chaos of our lives. Like grass and flowers, positive thoughts only grow when the environment is right. They thrive when we intentionally give them what they need to grow. When we choose the proper perspective, have gratitude, and own our self-talk, the result is a positive mindset. When we don't do those things, positive thoughts get overtaken by the negative.

You won't accidentally have a positive mindset. If you aren't intentional, your mind will be overtaken by the negativity so desperate to take root. Remove the weeds and make your mind a place where healthy, confident, positive thoughts grow. Be a good gardener of your mind.
