Keep Chopping Wood: Self Leadership

Tuesday, September 12

You will mess up. You will fail. You will fall short. You won’t always give your best. We know that off days are part of it. The question is how you respond to yourself in these moments.

You might shame yourself. “I’m such an idiot. Why did I even try? I always screw everything up.” This path leads to feeling overwhelmed and you quit.

You might enable yourself. “How could I have given my best? I was (insert excuse). And they didn’t (insert another excuse). It’s not my fault.” This leads to you never learning or growing from the moment. It may feel like self-compassion but you’re letting excuses win. And you’ll do the same tomorrow.

The best lead themselves. ”I was off today but I won’t be off tomorrow. I’ll figure out what happened and get better because of it.” This level of self-accountability leads to growth, leads to progress, leads to more influence.

The best hold themselves accountable to the standard they committed to.
