Keep Chopping Wood. Tuesday, June 13.

Tuesday, June 13

A few weeks ago we celebrated my parents 50th wedding anniversary. 50 years of anything is an incredible accomplishment, but especially marriage. In today’s world, it certainly is not normal.

Because in 50 years you have thousands of opportunities to quit. In 50 years, you have thousands of opportunities to make excuses. In 50 years, you have thousands of opportunities to say this isn’t convenient for me.

Instead, they chose 50 years of commitment. They chose 50 years of consistency. They chose 50 years of selflessness. Was it always easy? Of course not. Did they have off days? Absolutely. Did they always “feel” like it? I’m sure they didn’t. But commitment allows you to overcome the difficult moments and the off days. Commitment drives you to live your standard, not your feelings.

Their marriage isn’t flashy. It’s not some storybook relationship with a Hollywood highlight reel. It’s just two people showing up every day and doing the little things well.

The secret to success in anything isn’t really a secret. Commit to your vision. Show up consistently. Do the little things well. You’ll have chances to quit. You’ll have opportunities to make excuses. You’ll have moments you don’t feel like it. Show up anyway.
