Keep Chopping Wood. Tuesday, May 30

Tuesday, May 30

Yesterday I watched a man fall off a paddle board for an hour before finally being able to stand up on it. We’re on vacation in Florida, and while sitting on the beach, we looked out and saw a man nervously begin to stand on a paddle board, then go flying off backward with his fight flinging in the area. Admittedly, it was funny.

Then, he got up and tried again. Up on his knees, cautiously moving to his feet, then head thrown back, feet flying through the air, splashing into the water. We looked down and realized most people around us were also watching him. I don’t know if he noticed, but he didn’t care. He was locked in. He was focused. He had a mission, and he was going to complete it.

Finally, after about an hour, he made it. Exhausted, sitting on his knees, he began to stand up. Wobbling, he made it. He wasn’t standing confidently, but he was standing. And the whole beach cheered. He looked up and gave everyone a thumbs up. And then he was done. He swam back to the beach and rested for a bit.

May we all have that same commitment, lack of fear, and resilience in what we pursue today.
