Keep Chopping Wood. Wednesday, August 9

Are you living it?

Regardless of your role or title, you have a standard that you expect from other people. A standard about their attitude, the way they communicate, their effort, their body language, their intentions, their mindset, their commitment. You have expectations about the way they show up. And that’s not a bad thing, unless those expectations are impossible, or if you have never communicated them. Nobody will intentionally meet expectations they are unaware of. You are setting them up for failure.

But the bigger question is this: are you living that standard? Do you show up each moment with that attitude, that effort, that body language, those intentions, that mindset, that commitment, that level of communication? Because those standard cannot just be for others, they must first be lived by you. This is true for leaders holding the team to a standard, teams holding leaders to a standard, teams holding each other to a standard.

This is why self leadership is so critical.

The biggest threat to your influence is your unwillingness to live up to the standard you expect from others. Be worth following.
