Keep Chopping Wood. Wednesday, May 31

Wednesday, May 31

Our family drove to and from Florida in the last several days. Per Google, it is about a 14-hour drive. We broke it up into two days last week but did it all in one day yesterday.

On day two of our trip to Florida, three wrecks (not us) added over an hour to the drive. One was just three miles from the home we were staying in and caused traffic not to move for 30 minutes. The seven-hour trip took us more than 9 hours.

The way back had our 11-year-old throwing up for an hour, a portion of the highway being closed, and our car battery unexpectedly dying at our last stop for gas with three hours left (thankfully, it was a busy gas station, and we quickly got someone to jump the car). Then a bridge was out/being replaced five miles from our house, which caused an unexpected 10-minute detour at the last minute. The 14-hour drive home took us over 16 hours.

This is how road trips go. You have to make more stops than you expect. Unexpected delays pop up. There are detours. You have moments where you may not move at all. You wonder if you are ever going to get there. It always takes longer than you think. But eventually, you get where you want to go.

This is also the journey of getting better. There will be adversity you don’t expect. The path may change. Progress will stall at times. Frustration will set in from time to time. You may wonder if you actually have what it takes to get better.

But eventually, if you keep showing up, doing the work, and moving forward no matter how slowly, you will ultimately get where you want to go.

Stay on the path and take the next step today.
