I was co-leading a retreat with my brilliant friend Jessica recently when she dropped this bomb:

“Leading yourself well is your highest form of service to others.”

Sheesh.

We talk a lot about servant leadership, but most people think about in terms of putting your team first. And of course serving your team matters. But you cannot do that well if you are not first leading yourself.

Want to create more peace for those you lead? Lead yourself well.
Want to create more clarity for those you lead? Lead yourself well.
Want to create a better environment for those you lead? Lead yourself well.
Want to build more trust with those you lead? Lead yourself well.

When you lead yourself better, things get better for those you lead.
If leadership is service, and it is, stop looking outward for a minute. Look within. Start with leading yourself well.
