Leave behind

Monday, December 28
This is the time of year where everyone starts to think about goals and habits and what they want to accomplish in the new year.
I’m all for it. New goals do require new habits. We must change the way we think and act and decide and live. We can’t want new while still living the old.
Here’s a thought for you, though - and this is something we talk about in our mental performance work with athletes, leaders and teams: What is the habit that you need to drop?
So often, our growth will come from stopping the unhealthy habits. Sure, you want to work out regularly in 2026, but that late night unhealthy snack 2-3x week is still going to haunt you.
So think about the thing you do that is having the biggest negative impact on you. Could be related to anything - food, sleep, money, attitude, effort, etc.
In 2026, commit to not doing that anymore. Remove it as an option, remove it as a part of your identity. There is always the pull to do more when you are chasing goals. Often, we achieve them by doing less.
Leave your worst habit in 2025 and watch 2026 get better.
