Moods and Motivation

Wednesday, May 21

Most people wait for motivation to show up before they act.

“I’m just not feeling it today.”

But motivation is a mood.
And moods are inconsistent.
They come and go.
They rise and fall with your circumstances, your energy, your emotions, your successes and failures.

That’s why discipline matters.

Discipline doesn’t ask how you feel.
It doesn’t wait for inspiration.
It makes a decision.

Discipline is rooted in identity.

It’s not “Do I feel like working out?”
It’s “I’m someone who trains, so today I’ll train.”

It’s not “Am I in the mood to write, lead, parent, study, serve?”
It’s “I’ve already decided who I want to be, and I show up accordingly.”

That’s how progress is built.
Not in spurts of motivation.
But in quiet, consistent decisions.

You won’t always feel like it.
You won’t always want to.
But that’s not the point.

You don’t rise to the level of your moods.
You rise to the level of your discipline.

Motivation is a mood. Discipline is a decision.
