Negotiating the standard
Friday, May 31
How would you define a good leader? What characteristics do they embody, what values do they live out, and what actions do they consistently do?
How would you define a good teammate? What characteristics do they embody, what values do they live out, and what actions do they consistently do?
Easy enough thought exercise. Now for the hard part. Are you living that standard each day? Would the people you lead and work alongside describe you as a good leader or teammate based on the standard you laid out?
Now for the even harder part. What about the people you consider difficult? Based on your standard, would they describe you as a good leader or teammate? Are you living out those values, those actions, those characteristics toward them daily? Or do you make excuses because they are difficult? Or because you are tired, stressed, etc?
We don’t get to pick and choose when we live the standard. And if it’s a standard we hold others to, we don’t get to negotiate our way out of it.
