Nobody notices

Tuesday, March 3
I was working with a leader recently who is doing the work to get better, and yet frustrated. Why? “Nobody seems to notice I’m getting better.”
There’s a question we have to ask ourselves in these moments. Who are we getting better for? Us or them? And yes, we want to be better for people - at least that should be part of why we do the work. But at the end of the day, we have to be okay getting better just for ourselves. To realize that everybody else is in their own head, on their own journey, worried about themselves. (and by the way, that doesn’t mean they don’t notice. Sometimes they just don’t mention it.)
It’s not their job to notice our growth. It is our job. We can want them to notice, but we cannot need them to.
Be your own cheerleader. Celebrate your own progress. And let that be enough.
