What now?

Monday, October 30

We all have moments that, given the opportunity, we would gladly take a do-over on. Moments and decisions where we wonder what would have happened if we’d just done it a different way.

“What if I’d said this instead of that?”
“What if I’d not lost my temper?”
“What if I’d made this decision, not that one?”
“What if I’d taken that job instead of this job?”
“What if I’d called this play instead of that one?”
“What if I’d made the play instead of missing it?”

Reliving those moments, getting stuck in the “what if?” cycle, can be frustrating and overwhelming. Should we learn from those moments? Absolutely. But dwelling on them won’t change them. Getting mad about them won’t make the outcomes different. Regretting them won’t make us any better.

The only way to get better is to learn and move forward. To reset your mind on your goals, on your vision, on where you want to be instead of where you used to be or could have been. To do the work you need to do today, to make the decisions you need to make today. The best way to not get the future you want is to stay focused on the past you regret.

Learn to let go of the “what if?” and focus on the “what now?”
