Obsessed

Tuesday, July 9

My youngest has decided he wants to be a catcher in baseball. It has become an obsession. He got some gear that my in-laws had laying around from when their sons played, and he got a catcher’s mitt. Every time I come home, the immediate question is, “Dad, can we go catch?” He makes his brothers throw to him during the day when I’m gone.

His obsession has created his discipline. He knows what he wants to be and so he’s doing the necessary work to become that.

The same is true for us in our growth. Most of us are not obsessed with being better leaders, having better mindsets, building better relationships, being better teammates, being great at our craft. We are interested in it, which means we may read a book or attend a course or listen to a podcast, but it rarely turns to the necessary action required to get better.

Information is a start, but action creates change.

If you want to get better, become obsessed. Obsession creates discipline.
