Your path

Wednesday, March 20

My family and I got away for a bit over the weekend to relax and rest for a bit. One of the things we found to do in the town we were in was a massive maze/scavenger hunt.

After getting off to a great start, we suddenly found ourselves wandering in circles, somehow ending up in the same few places and unable to get to the one place we wanted to get.

At some point, a family walked by us that was moving with purpose. One of my sons said that we should follow them. “Clearly they know where they are going,” he said.

“We don’t know what they’ve done or where they are going,” I responded. “We could follow them and end up creating even more of a headache for ourselves. They aren’t on our path.” Eventually, we found our way. As we walked to the car, I could see that the other family was still in the maze.

It was a reminder to me of the race of life. There are people who look like they know what they are doing. People who are focused in the direction they are going. And when we feel stuck, or dissatisfied, it can be tempting to look and them and think they’ve got it figured out. That their path is the way.

Except they aren’t running your race. They aren’t on the journey you are on. Following them could get your further off of your path.

Your race is your race. Your journey is your journey. Reject comparison, stay focused, keep moving forward.
