Please them

Wednesday, October 29
You can cater to them.
You can defer to them.
You can try to please them.
And at some point, after a lifetime of trying to make everyone else happy, you wake up and realize you’ve built a life that isn’t yours.
It’s a collection of other people’s expectations.
Don’t hear what I’m not saying. Serving others matters. It’s necessary. But serving and pleasing are not the same thing.
Serving comes from humility.
Pleasing comes from fear.
Serving says, “I want to help.”
Pleasing says, “I don’t want you to be upset with me.”
It is conflict avoidance disguised as kindness. And it kills your peace and progress.
At some point, you have to say no to pleasing others so you can say yes to your path.
Will some be disappointed? Maybe.
But your job isn’t to protect their comfort at the cost of your purpose.
Take ownership.
