Hope you had a restful weekend and got to watch all of the football.

Of course we have to mentioned the ending of the Michigan and Western Michigan game. Not the details or the communication or the fan and media reaction. But the leadership aspect of it. Specifically, from Western Michigan president Russ Kavulhuna. Following the game, when emotions were understandably high, he was clear and calm.

“This is a remarkable opportunity for us to look forward, for us to say to these young men, that when this kind of thing happens and the system is set, you use it as an opportunity to learn. If we are good, this will make us stronger. WMU teaches people how to get punched in the mouth and the gut, and then get up and go forward.”

Coach Lance Taylor echoed that sentiment in his comments. “We aren’t going to get bitter.”

This is leadership. No whining. No “this isn’t fair” talk. No victim mentality. An acceptance of reality and of a responsibility to move forward.

May we model this in our own lives.
