Here’s the truth that very few people today really want to talk about:

If you want to be great, you have to do more than others do.

The best don’t settle for the same amount of effort that others put in. They do more. That doesn’t mean significantly more. It doesn’t mean you work 70 hours while they work 40. It doesn’t mean you practice 20 hours per week while they practice 10. But it does mean you do more.

Most people do enough to get by. That’s okay if that’s what you are about. But if you want the benefits that come with unlocking your potential, you can’t simply show up when and how others show up. Greatness requires more than average.

If you put in 15 extra minutes per day on a skill (a sport, self-awareness, communication, studying a topic, etc), that’s an extra 1.75 hours per week that others aren’t putting in. That’s 7 extra hours per month and 91 extra hours per year. What kind of difference would that make on your growth and your impact?

If you’re about getting better, you’ll find a way.
