Sliding standards

Wednesday, August 26

One of the biggest mistakes I see leaders make is avoiding the hard conversation.

The standard gets compromised, a value gets ignored, and they dismiss it. Not because it didn’t matter but because they didn’t want to have the conversation. They don’t want to cause more drama, they are afraid they’ll hurt the person’s feelings, they don’t want to be disliked. The list goes on, but it is all driven by fear.

The result is they let the standard slide. The easy path today creates hardship tomorrow.

We do this with ourselves as well. We refuse to be honest with ourselves about a mistake or a behavior. We justify it, make excuses for it. Anything to avoid the truth.

And we let our standard slide. The easy path today creates hardship tomorrow.

Fight for the standard today. Fight for your standard today.
