Tell the Truth

I was in Ohio earlier this week for a speaking engagement. Next week I head to Lake Tahoe, with trips the following weeks to Albuquerque, Hawaii and Austin. If you need a speaker for your event, want to do a training day for your organization or a retreat for your executive staff, I’d love to be a part of making those events worthwhile. Nothing I enjoy more than being on site with leaders. Just reply to this email.

Do you tell the truth?

Not the trimmed-down version.
Not the comfortable, softened edges.
Not the half-truth that keeps everyone happy.

The actual truth.

We have a problem in our culture today. We don’t like to tell or hear the truth. Truth makes us uncomfortable. Hearing it can sting. Speaking it can feel risky.

So we sugarcoat. We spin. We avoid.

And as a result, nothing gets better. In fact, things usually get worse. Problems grow in the silence between what we think and what we say.

And this isn’t just about how you lead others.
It’s about how you lead yourself.

Do you tell the truth to yourself?

About where you’re falling short.
About what needs to change.
About the habits you excuse but shouldn’t.

Lies keep us stuck.
Truth sets the conditions for growth.

It’s not easy. But neither is staying the same.
