The messiness

Friday, June 12
I love getting a behind the curtain peek at the process of greatness.
The hours of work and preparation an athlete puts in, both physically and mentally.
The years an entrepreneur spent build a successful business.
The brainstorming, writing, editing and re-writing of a musician or author.
One theme I notice in all of them is the messiness. The hit song started as a beat or a phrase. Or a melody that didn’t mean anything but got stuck in their head. Lyrics added and removed. Melodies adjusted. Constant editing, back and forth, trying new directions, accepting some and rejecting others and then embracing some that were rejected. Until eventually, “this is ready to ship.”
This is the same in our pursuit. Of leadership, of mindset, of culture, of growth, of progress, of goals.
We get enticed and then overwhelmed and then defeated by the outcome. The best embrace the process. They embrace the messiness. They embrace the imperfections. It’s supposed to be ugly at the beginning and sometimes even n the middle. The goal is what it is becoming. What you are becoming.
Be willing to get messy. Be in process.
