The truth

Wednesday, October 7
I get to serve some amazing leaders, teams and organizations. From NCAA champions to pro athletes to billion dollar Fortune 100 companies and Power 4 athletic departments. Whether through coaching and consulting or a keynote address.
And I tell all of them the same thing: I can’t make you better.
That’s kind of a weird message to give someone who is paying you to, in fact, make them better.
But it’s true. I can give them frameworks, share perspectives, introduce tools. All things that are useful and that I know, when used, work extremely well. The key there is when used.
And I can’t make people use the tools, implement the frameworks, have the perspective shift. I can’t make them do the work. And I have to be honest about that. Because while my ego loves hearing that I made a client better or a team better or that they are better because I was with them, I know that the truth is they are better because they do the work.
And the same is true for you. I can’t make you better with this newsletter every day. All I can do is give you things I know work. And then you have to make the decision about whether you will continue about your day like it’s every other day, or actually do the work of getting better.
I can encourage you. I can challenge in you. I can share what I know and am learning. But if you want to get better, it’s up to you.
