Think at a higher level

Friday, May 10

You can’t think the way you used to and operate at higher levels.

In working with leaders, we often talk about the concept of having a Sherpa mentality. It’s not about climbing the mountain, it’s about helping others climb the mountain. But to do so means you have to be able to operate at higher levels. And to operate at a higher level, you must be able to think at a higher level.

When you’re just starting, you don’t have to be as focused, as disciplined, as intentional. The path is wider, there is more room for error. But the higher you go the path narrows, the difficulty increases and the demands are greater. You have to be more focused, more disciplined, more intentional. You have to have a 30k foot view, not a 3k foot view.

It’s not just about your physical skill, it’s about the way you think. The same is true for leaders. The higher you move up in a team or organization, the greater your mindset must be. You can’t think and operate like you did at lower levels.

Leading at a higher level requires that you think at a higher level. Raise your mindset today.
