Thought standards

Wednesday, February 5

You’ve probably heard the phrase: The standard you walk by is the standard you accept.

It’s true in leadership. It’s true in culture. And it’s definitely true in how you talk to yourself.

If you let negative self-talk run unchecked—if you accept the voice that says:

  • “I’m not good enough.”

  • “I’ll never figure this out.”

  • “I’m falling behind.”

Then that becomes your standard. And the actions that follow will not be the actions that lead to progress.

But here’s the good news: You set the standard for how you talk to yourself.

The best leaders don’t let self-doubt take the driver’s seat. They challenge their thoughts, reframe their mindset, and hold themselves to a higher thought standard.

Pay attention to your self-talk. When you catch a negative thought, don’t just let it slide. Challenge it. Reframe it. Upgrade it.

Because the standard you allow for your thoughts will determine the standard you live by.
