Washers and Clarity

Friday, July 24

Our washer recently decided it wasn’t getting enough attention. It would shake violently, not finish a load, and then yell at us. My first thought was, “Lovely. Didn’t have a new washer on the BINGO card for the summer. I’m sure the dryer is next.”

A small issue became a major problem in my brain. Then I stopped for a second, and remembered the number of things I’d recently fixed/replaced in our house that I thought were massive issues - air conditioner, leak under the sink, toilet.

“Maybe this one is a simple fix,” I thought. So I fired up AI, told it our washer model and what was happening. The fix? $40 and 20 minutes of work. Hundreds saved on a repairman, and who knows how much saved on a new washer. Simply by slowing down and getting clarity.

We do this in leadership, and life, all the time. An issue pops up and we default to disaster. Everything is broken and the world is ending. And if we don’t slow down, our response is actually what makes it a huge issue. We throw complicated, high-drama, expensive solutions at simple problems.

Panic adds noise, while patience creates perspective.

Most things in your life are not disasters. Change your perspective, change your response, change your reality.
