What it takes

Friday, February 7

Most people aren’t willing to do what it takes. Maybe that sounds harsh, but look around you. How many people are just going through the motions? How many people are doing just enough to get by, just enough to keep the job, just enough to maintain the status quo? Almost everyone, would be my guess.

And how many people are showing up with serious effort, with serious care, doing whatever it takes to get better? I would bet the number of people you would describe this way is very small.

What’s funny (and sad) is that those who are in that second camp tend to get looked down on by those in the first camp. Those who care more, who want it more, who do more, get negatively labeled. Why? Because they are a threat to those who want to stay average. Your commitment is a threat to the convenience that others want to live by.

Great. Be committed anyway. Care anyway. Go for it anyway. Do what it takes anyway.

Don’t lower your standards to make average-minded people comfortable. Don’t sacrifice your best and live with regret. Run after your potential on purpose. Be the kind of person who does whatever it takes to get better.
